APO Alumni Association of British Columbia

In winter of 1979, a group of brothers met in Vancouver, British Columbia and from then on, more brothers came along and introduced themselves as APO members. On weekends, they usually have fellowship and brainstorming.

In 1982, after much discussion, a group of fraternal members decided that the time was ripe to introduce APO to the community and also to declare to other APO members that APO exists in British Columbia. An APO Basketball Tournament was held and it became APO’s initial project. During the tournament, more members showed up and introduced themselves. The first basketball tournament was followed by the second one and more brothers and sisters came along.

Year after year, the number of members grew and it was decided among themselves to formally organize an alumni association in Vancouver, British Columbia. On September 22, 1991, with the assistance of Bro. Manny Reyes from Alpha Zeta chapter, the first organizational meeting was held at Unit D7 3545 East 43rd, Vancouver, BC with  the following agenda: a) a creation of an Adhoc Committee  b) legalization of the alumni association c)  formulation of the Constitution and By-Laws (CBL).

On September 25, 1991, the Adhoc Committee called another meeting to finalize the CBL and the name of the association. It was decided that “Alpha Phi Omega International (Philippine) Alumni Association of British Columbia” (APOIAABC) be the name of the alumni association.

On October 11, 1991 at Palayok Restaurant, 2717 East Hastings, Burnaby, BC, the 2nd organizational meeting was held to adopt the CBL and after which, the first election of officers was held. On October 26, 1991, the first official meeting was held at Metro Pizza, Vancouver, BC.

In August 1993, a petition for incorporation was filed with the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Relation of British Columbia. On January 21, 1994, the petition was granted and APOIAABC became a legal entity. Mr. John Powell, Registrar of Companies issued APOIAABC Registry #S31493.

In September 2000 in Houston,Texas, during ACNA's 5th Biennial Convention, APOIAABC became the 12th member of Alumni Council of North America (ACNA). In September 2004, the 7th Biennial Convention was held in British Columbia hosted by APOIAABC.
